Privacy policy
What Plain Policies collects, what it doesn't, and how the tools that help keep the site free (analytics and ads) work. Last updated: November 2026.
The short version
Plain Policies is an educational site. You don't need an account, you never have to enter personal or insurance information to use any page or tool, and nothing you type into the glossary search, Policy Language Decoder, or other tools is sent to us or stored on our servers. The site is operated by Codebead LLC.
Information we do not collect
There are no sign-up forms, quote forms, lead forms, or newsletters. We don't ask for your name, address, date of birth, policy numbers, or anything resembling underwriting information, and we never will. The site does not sell or share personal information because it does not collect it directly.
What stays on your own device
Some features save small preferences in your browser's local storage, such as which Learning Pathway lessons you've completed, whether you dismissed the disclaimer bar or seasonal note, and your ad-consent choice. This data never leaves your browser, and clearing your browser data removes it.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand, in aggregate, which pages are useful and how people move through the site (for example, which tools are opened and how far visitors scroll). Google Analytics uses cookies or similar identifiers and receives standard technical data such as your approximate location, device type, browser, and the pages you view. We use this only to improve the site's content. You can opt out with Google's browser add-on or by blocking analytics cookies in your browser.
Advertising
To help cover hosting costs, the site displays ads served by Google AdSense. Google and its partners may use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland, no ad-related script loads until you choose "Allow ads" on the consent banner; declining does not limit any other part of the site. Region detection uses IP-based geolocation provided by our hosting platform and is not tied to your identity. You can learn more about how Google uses data from sites that use its services at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites, and you can manage ad personalization at adssettings.google.com.
Hosting and logs
The site is hosted on Vercel, which may keep standard server logs (such as IP address and requested page) for security and operational purposes under its own privacy policy.
Third-party links
Some pages link to outside organizations such as government agencies and nonprofit research groups. We don't control those sites and aren't responsible for their privacy practices.
Children
The site is intended for a general audience, including teachers and students using the Teacher Hub, and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone.
Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal data, or to opt out of personalized advertising. Because we don't hold personal data about visitors, most requests are answered by the controls above, but you're welcome to write to us at hello@codebead.com.
Changes to this policy
If we change how the site handles data, we'll update this page and its "last updated" date.
